Young Carers Services


Young people (5-18 years old) who care for someone at home who is ill, disabled or frail (including mental illness and alcohol or drug abuse).

Examples of tasks are:

  • Giving medication
  • Cooking
  • Housework
  • Helping to look after someone

The service offers:

  • Respite breaks
  • One-to-one support
  • Time with other young carers
  • After school clubs
  • And lots more……

Furness Carers Mission Statement:

Furness Carers will work to identify Carers and enable them to manage their caring role with support from a trust-worthy organisation providing a range of quality services and activities which can be tailored to meet individual need.


Definition of a Carer:

Carers look after a family member, partner, friend or neighbour in need of help because they are ill, frail or have a disability. The care they provide is unpaid.

Carers can be adults or children and young people.
